The Basics

While the Sagrada Familia looms large over Barcelona—it’s visible from many parts of the city—the cathedral should be seen up close and from within to truly be appreciated. Visitors can tour the interior on their own, on a guided tour, or with an audio guide. It’s also possible to take an elevator up one of the towers for sweeping views over the city.

Just about every sightseeing tour in Barcelona includes a stop here, as do hop-on hop-off bus tours, which also stop at Park Güell, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, and Plaça de Catalunya. It’s possible to combine a visit to the Sagrada Familia with a half-day trip to the nearby mountain abbey of Montserrat or the medieval city of Girona.

Sagrada Familia Small-Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-Line Ticket
Xavier was our guide. He was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. To appreciate the architecture and artistry of Gaudi and those who have continued his work you must see to truly appreciate. To learn that continuing to complete this masterpiece is funded by donations. The Sagrada Familia is a must see!

Skip the Line: Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia Guided Tour
We attended this tour to "check" these two major sites off our list. It was a great tour, and we learned a lot about the city as well that made the rest of our trip very enjoyable. Our tour guide, Alberto, also gave us some great tips for restaurants and other things to do around the city. The pace of the tour was very enjoyable and we never felt rushed or bored. It was perfect length of time at both places. However, I think you could spend a week at Sagrada Familia and not see it all!

Skip the Line: Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia Guided Tour
This walking tour of Parc Guell and Sagrada Familia was the highlight of our whole trip! Alberto was personable, and knowledgeable and made the tour a ton of fun. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Barcelona. He did a great job telling the story behind these incredible places and Gaudi's work and life while also giving us some freedom to explore them on our own.

Great architecture but should have avoided a ‘bi-lingual’ tour

Fast Track Sagrada Familia Guided Tour
La Sagrada Familia stands on its own as a completely unique place, but the tour wasn’t great as our guide spent the vast majority of time speaking Spanish and then offering up a few crumbs for the English speakers. I’m the future we will only do English only as our Spanish is rudimentary and not good enough to keep up.

Sagrada Familia Barcelona Skip-The-Line entry ticket
An incredible experience of the architecture filled with photons through the stained glass windows. The video shown in the Sagrada Familia captures the dance of the photons in the church beautifully.

How to Get There

The Sagrada Familia is centrally located near the Sagrada Familia metro stop on lines 2 and 5. It’s also easy to reach on foot from just about anywhere in the old city. The main entrance sits along Carrer Marina in front of the basilica’s nativity facade.

When to Get There

The Sagrada Familia is open throughout the year but can be extremely busy in summer, so a skip-the-line ticket is recommended. The facade looks markedly different when illuminated at night than it does during the day, so plan for at least a short visit during both periods. Note that the basilica holds an international mass each Sunday morning in several languages; entrance is free, but space is limited.

Visiting the Sagrada Familia Museum

The basement beneath the passion façade houses a museum covering the temple's construction through drawings, photographs, and plaster models. Entry to the museum is included in basilica admission, and visitors can see the working modeling studio where Gaudi’s restored maquettes are reproduced to aid in the structure’s ongoing construction.
