The Basics

The film screened within this IMAX theater gives viewers the sensation of traveling through the 277 miles (446 kilometers) of the Grand Canyon, soaring over the canyon rim, white water rafting down the Colorado River, and going back in time to uncover the history of this natural wonder.

Visitors can upgrade their IMAX experience to include a light meal and drink to enjoy during the screening. You can also grab a bite to eat after the movie at the Explorer’s Cafe, do some shopping at the Official National Geographic Store, or learn about the Inner Canyon from visitor center staff.

Really enjoyed this tour
We had John as our tour guide and myself and my friend found him very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. His humour was really enjoyable also. We liked the fact this tour was designed for small numbers as it made us feel heard and also we weren't struggling to hear what was being said.

Our bus driver was the BEST. Robert was very friendly, informative, and a great driver. We went on Sept 5th. The Grand Canyon was fantastic. Of course, the helicopter ride was breathtaking. Will never forget the trip.

This trip was worth the long ride from Las Vegas. Witnessing the majesty of the Grand Canyon in person is something anyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. The ride was very smooth and the driver was fantastic.

The Beauty of the Grand Canyon. But also all the memories made by all the information and the stops the driver gave us. Sorry don't remember his name. But he kept us well entertained throughout the trip.

I had a nice experience on this trip overall. The bus ride is long, making 3 stops each way for rest breaks, but viewing the south rim was breathtakingly sacred and grand. There wasn’t much crowding as I suspected (compared to the west rim which is a shorter distance from Las Vegas) so it was easy taking great pictures and videos and observing nature. There’s wildlife in the area and do not feed them anything at anytime. Due to the national park status the animals are approachable but always remember they are very much wild so mind your distance. I am elated I chose this tour for my first visit to this beautiful place!

Just wished we had more time to explore the canyon and gift shops. 15 minute breaks not long enough. It took 15 minutes for the loo break.

We enjoyed the trip as I travelled with my wife and parents in-laws. I wish we had a more specific schedule of the different stops and a rough time table. It would have been nice to know that we would only have a few hours to spend at the Grand Canyon specific stops. The tour guides/drivers were great and I found the information they provided quite interesting/useful.

It was a great ride, comfortable coach and plenty of stops for bathroom breaks and snacks. Overall a very enjoyable trip, my only complaint was the fact it hammered down which prevented us from seeing the canyon properly

When to Get There

The Grand Canyon IMAX film is shown every hour on the half-hour daily throughout the year (with shorter hours in winter). Plan to see the movie before you visit the Grand Canyon to get some context, and plan to book your tickets ahead of time, as the line can get long, especially during the summer.

Imax By the Numbers

The IMAX screen at the Grand Canyon is 4,500 times bigger than an average TV screen, with 12,000 watts of digital surround sound to help you feel like you’re there. The cameras used to shoot IMAX footage weigh up to 100 pounds (45 kilograms) for 2D and 265 pounds (120 kilograms) for 3D. If you were to shine an IMAX light projector from the moon, we could see it on earth with the naked eye.
