42 reviews

The Ohakune Old Coach Road is a bicycle and hiking track with a fascinating history. It was constructed in 1906 to ‘connect’ two ends of the North Island’s main trunk railway line, which were separated by rugged terrain. Railway passengers would transfer between the two lines by horse and carriage. Once the railway lines were connected, the track was abandoned. That is, until it was revived as a hiking and cycle track in recent years.

Great fun and adventure
Really friendly and helpful service. Easy, hassle free booking. The route does require a good level of confidence on a mountain bike and a fair level of physical fitness. But it is fun and a memorable experience.
