196 Fairy Springs Road, Rotorua, New Zealand

The basics

Many travelers to New Zealand are interested in learning more about Maori culture, but it’s not always easy to have authentic interactions. At the Mitai Maori Village, visitors can experience various aspects of Maori culture in an entertaining setting. Be prepared to get involved, as you may be invited to dance or paddle a waka (canoe).

Many visitors purchase combo packages, which give them access to a cultural show and a traditional hangi dinner, as well as other select activities like off-road nature tours, a hot spring spa, and a forest bushwalk.

The walk in the forest. The food was good. Explanations were good as well. People with screaming babies should leave the room out of courtesy so others can hear what’s going on.

The evening at the Mitai Māori Village will be always a memorable experience. The music, the stories, the war cry and the demonstrations of social norms, arsenals for war from the past were so beautifully structured for the evening. The food coma, better not talk about it.

We had a fantastic time at the Mitai Māori Village for the evening. Everything is very well organized and runs smoothly - despite being quite a lot of visitors all in one place! All the villagers were welcoming & friendly, and our guide Jason was great. We enjoyed learning some more about Māori history & culture and LOVED the show - comprising songs, poems, dances & demonstrations. Plenty of delicious hangi food for everyone! Thoroughly recommended.
Loved this tour, great for travellers and groups of all types and sizes!

Incredible tour, wonderful way to learn about indigenous Maori culture and history. Food also great, and a nice variety. We loved it as a couple. Will return to do this with children in the future. Whether solo, couple, family group or group of friends, this is an excellent experience. Highly recommend to everyone who has the chance to do this experience!
