Te Puia

Te Puia, Rotorua, New Zealand

The Basics

Admission tickets and guided tours through Te Puia usually include a visit to the Kiwi House for a look at this nocturnal national bird housed in a dark enclosure. In the national weaving and carving schools, you can watch Maori students re-create the traditional arts of their ancestors.

For what is arguably the best evening in Rotorua, come in the evening to experience Te Po—a traditional ceremony andhangi feast (food cooked in a traditional in-ground oven), along with a music and dance performance. Travelers can also visit Te Puia as part of a Rotorua sightseeing tour, an eco tour, or an excursion focused on arts and crafts.

Seeing the Hobbiton set and learning about all the "back stories" about the filming of the movies. The lunch at the Green Dragon was good too! The Te Puia thermal fields were awesome as well!

Ex Tauranga: Canopy Tree Walk / Te Puia Geysers - Private Shore Excursion
Had a wonderful time! Waited to see geyser go off. Last 10 minutes. Redwood canopy walk was beautiful and peaceful. Driver was professional and car roomy and clean. Patient when we were shopping but kept us moving to get back to ship on time. Was given drive tour thru Rotorua which was bonus. Only concern was pick up. Is at the exit at the ship port not down street at address shown so easier pick up. Really had a good time.

Tauranga Shore Excursion: Te Puia Maori Cultural Centre and Rotorua City Sightseeing
Duncan was a wonderful tour leader. The Maori Experience was exceptional. A small insight into their culture and history and ongoing efforts to pass their traditional arts crafts and language to future generations in a very special setting. Thank you to all involved.
