The basics

The best way to experience Seattle’s top gastronomic attraction is by sampling your way through it. Guided tasting tours, cooking classes, and cultural walking tours of the market are all excellent ways to take in the sights and sounds, try a little bit of everything, and find spots you may have missed on your own. You can even book an early-access tour to avoid the crowds.

No Tourists Here - We Were Locals
Lucky absolutely fueled our love for Pike Place Market with his seemingly limitless knowledge of the market. We came back with two different tours and spent our last afternoon there based on his recommendations. We felt completely at ease just soaking up his enthusiasm as a local not as a tour guide. I simply cannot compliment him and all of his communication enough.

Snack Safari in Pike Place Market
This was the perfect introduction to Pike Place Market for me. I ended up going to so many spots I never would have if I had not been recommended by Will, which made my time in Seattle so much more enjoyable. I learned a lot about Pike that I never would have expected as well. What a foodie city!

Excellent variety of foods. My 13 year old daughter enjoyed many of the choices as well. The shop owners provided yummy samples and we were able to purchase at discount when we revisited after the tour was over.

Had a great tour with Lucky. I feel like we learned a good amount about the market and the samples we had were delicious! My only regret is not going earlier during our time in Seattle so that we could revisit some of the stores.

Lucky was really knowledgeable and very entertaining! We learned the history of the Market and how a sense of community permeates everything the vendors do. It’s much more than a shopping experience, and Lucky conveyed that throughout the tour. We returned to the Market on our own today and happened to overhear other tour guides….without a doubt, we were lucky to get Lucky 🤣. He was the best.

When to get there

Because most of the action at Pike Place Market takes place indoors, it’s a great place to visit year-round. Open from dawn to dusk, the market is always bustling, but you can often avoid the crowds by visiting on weekday mornings.

Classic fish throwing at Pike Place

One of the market's most entertaining spectacles takes place at the seafood stalls, where fishmongers throw salmon and other fish to each other rather than passing them by hand. When a customer places an order, an employee at the ice-covered fish table picks up the fish and theatrically hurls it over the countertop so it goes flying through the air to another employee who catches it and preps it for sale. Vendors can pack fish for travel, and most ship throughout the US.
