What To Expect

Meet your knowledgeable guide upon hotel pickup by comfortable minivan, and settle in for your morning tour of Auckland, followed by lunch and wine tasting in the afternoon.

First, explore the heritage architecture of Queen Street and view landmarks in the central business district (CBD). Then take a drive past Auckland University and the Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park. Your guide points out historical buildings in the bustling district of Ponsonby before crossing the Auckland Harbour Bridge to the North Shore.

Make a stop in the charming seaside enclave of Devonport for a meander along Narrow Neck Beach, and motor up to the nearby Mt Victoria lookout for panoramic views over the city and harbor. Returning across the bridge, your guide escorts you to Westhaven Marina for a glimpse of fishmongers and other vendors at the bustling Auckland Fish Market.

After your city tour, it’s an approximate 30-minute journey to the Kumeu wine region, known for its fine New Zealand varietals. Savor wine paired with a Mediterranean-style lunch of fresh regional dishes at the award-winning Soljans Estate Winery.

After lunch, follow your guide on a short bird-watching expedition in search of breeding gannets (large seabirds) at Muriwai Beach — one of the few mainland gannet-nesting sites in the world.

Follow up with a tasting at Matua Valley Wines before you sip more varietals and take in the scenic vineyards at West Brook Winery. Finally, relax on the picturesque drive back to your Auckland hotel.

The City and Wine — A Great Experience

Alex, our driver/tour guide was fantastic. Knowledgeable, articulate and kind. The view from Mt. Victoria was amazing, as was the lunch at Soljans Winery (try the Croatian dish if it is available — Yum!) John at Coopers Creek was especially nice, and the Coopers Creek Gold Dessert Wine was outstanding. Over all, the tour gave us the opportunity to experience the variety of wines of Kumeu. Thanks again. Ken & Dinah

Fabulous day in Auckland area

This tour can be divided into two parts: the morning city tour and the afternoon wine tour. Both guides, Jason and Alex, were great. The tour is operated by Bush and a beach tours here in Auckland and the company has an excellent reputation. From the moment we were picked up in the morning, we knew we were in excellent hands. The city tour was very well paved with great stops and great information presented. The afternoon tour to the three vineyards was loads of fun and informative. The three vineyards were excellent. It was a great day out!

Very good overview City tour of Auckland in the morning. Great opportunity to tour the City Center, the Harbor area and several of the adjacent neighborhoods. The afternoon wine tour with three stops was outstanding. The staff at each was quite knowledgeable about their wines and food pairings. The highlight of the afternoon was a stop at the cliffs on the west shore to see the gannet and tern colonies starting their annual egg hatchings. Great introduction to Auckland for newcomers to NZ
