Then, meet vendors and restauranteurs as your guide takes your small group behind the scenes at the bustling Auckland Fish Market, where you’ll enjoy wine tasting and a light lunch.

Afterward, take a city tour of Auckland, driving down popular Ponsonby Road, a hip area festooned with boutique shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. Your guide shares informative commentary about Auckland’s diverse cultures and current trends in the food and wine scene.

Admire panoramic views over the city from the summit of Mt Eden, and journey past the 185-acre (75-hectare) expanse of Auckland Domain, whose grounds include formal gardens, the Wintergarden Pavilion and the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Best food tour ever…Kath was excellent! She not only gave us a food tour but a history and cultural lesson as well. She was charming and enthusiastic, we had a fabulous time! (Plus LOTS of food)! Highly highly recommend!

Not a Food Tour
Terri_B, Feb 2023
This was not a food tour. We only went to a few places, very little food info, and basically just sat down and pick out what you want. Most of the day was spent driving around looking at some places outside the city. We have been on many Viator food tours that were fabulous. This was not a food tour.
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Hi Terri. Thanks for this. We don't actually have you registered on one of our tours. Maybe a different company? Please do give me a call if I have that wrong, but that is also not the process on our tours. We don't offer 'pick what you want.' Look forward to hearing from you. Our office number will be on the ticket. Many thanks
Stuffed at the end!

We had a bit of trouble finding the guide (she was inside the hotel) but had a great visit. First we went for coffee and a candy, next to have a "meat pie" from a gourmet shop. It was delicious! Our next stop was cheese tasting (also an olive oil and a couple other items in the store). There was NO wine tasting as advertised. We asked Kath about that but she said it only included a glass of wine at lunch if you wanted. Lunch was at Ampersand and was wonderful (with a lovely wine of your choice). It sounded like Kath takes people to a variety of places depending on what she feels like. She was quite talkative and friendly and gave a nice driving tour around town. By the end of the tour, we were all stuffed!
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Thanks Linda. Look forward to seeing you again in Auckland.

Not a typical food tour where you walk around the city and sample different foods at the markets or restaurants. I felt like we spend most of our time driving around rather than eating. We also skipped one food stop because some of the people wanted a ride to another drop-off location.
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Hi Mike. Thanks for the feedback. You are completely correct, this isn't a walking tour. It was never advertised as one. It is a driven tour that goes from suburb to suburb around the city and has done since 2010. Now I could completely understand if you were annoyed about the coffee that ended up all over one of you, but a new tshirt was purchased and I'm pretty sure there were enough apologies to sink a ship. I'm quite surprised by the review as you both said you had enjoyed the tour. We also didn't skip a stop. I'm sorry if you thought we had. Please do get in touch with me directly if you would like any further resolve.

We had a great time. Went to a coffee shop first, had our first flat whites and tangelo chocolates. We also saw how they made their coffee. Did some touring then had breakfast at a great small shop. I was already full after the meat pie and while boar terrine. More touring and then a huge lunch with oysters, prawn cocktail, beef croquettes, and more. Definitely recommend.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you had a fabulous time. It's a lovely way to explore the city.

Fun and filling tour

Fun tour! We were driven around in a very comfortable oversized van, seeing the major sights of Auckland. We stopped at a weekend market and sampled some delicious coffee, and a meat filled pastry. Next we visited a shop where the local chefs shop and had several tastings of different oils, an apple product and some cheese samples. Lunch was served at the fish market, several different samplings that included a salmon dish, prawns, mussels, and your choice of beverage. Our final stop was for a wonderful ice cream cone called the Hokey Pokey. I highly recommend the tour!

Was picked up at cruise ship dock with no problems. The first stop was a farmer's market hidden away on a back street. A lot of samples of fresh fruit, pastries, vegetables, preserves, honey, etc. Ate a lot of samples. Next we went to a wholesale/retail gourmet store. Again, hidden away in an industrial area. We did tastings there of different oils, vinegars and cheeses. Then on to the Auckland fish market, which was interesting to see. We had a very good lunch of assorted seafood dishes.Great day
Enjoyable tour inside the city of Auckland

Start your trip in the morning with gourmet coffee and experienced how good coffee are being roasted. Visited a vegan bakery for breakfast. Driving through town and tasting of special cheese, honey and olive oil were eyes opening. The tour ended with a Fish Market tour and lunch close by with a large seafood platter plus local brewer. The whole experience was enjoyable.

Elle was an amazing guide! She knew just where to take us in order for us to truly experience the different flavors of Auckland. We started in the local market where we sampled delicious quiche and croque monsieur. The brownie was amazing and the limoncello divine! We also went to the shop where chefs buy their cheeses and various ingredients. We tried and also purchased some amazing cheeses and tea! We some how also managed to grab some yummy apple syrup to bring home and hide from the kids! Elle also took us to lunch for some Auckland local seafood. Perfect! Elle knows the ins and outs of Auckland and the best places to go if you want to experience the flavors of Auckland. She is funny and entertaining and we truly enjoyed our tour and meeting her. I highly recommend Big Foody Food Tours if you want a true taste of Auckland.
