What To Expect

When your cruise ship docks in Auckland, you’re picked up at Prince's Wharf to start your half-day shore excursion to New Zealand’s west coast wineries. Hop inside a minivan and depart Auckland's city center and western suburbs for this North Island wine region.

An informative guide escorts you to a large, established winery and a smaller boutique label, where you can taste a range of New Zealand varietals produced from grapes grown in Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne all the way to the South Island’s Marlborough wine region and Central Otago.

If you've selected a morning departure, you'll stop at a vista point overlooking the black sands of Muriwai Beach and the tranquil waters of the Tasman Sea. Follow your guide on a brief walk to Otakamiro Point, home to the Takapu Refuge — New Zealand's northernmost gannet colony. Get an up-close look at these seabirds with wingspans up to 6 feet (2 meters).

If you've chosen the afternoon tour option, you'll visit an additional winery instead.

Conclude your tour with a return trip to the Auckland port via the rugged Tasman coastline, arriving back at the waterfront in time to re-board your cruise ship.

Not only did we visit 4 wineries that were very different from each other, but had a wonderful lunch as well. The icing on the cake was going to the coast to see the gannet colony and the beach. A wonderful day!

GREAT half day tour to the 'Napa Valley ' of Auckland! Guide & driver were great, nice comfy van , really nicely paced w/ a black sand beach stop on the Tasmanian sea (!) The 2 wineries were lovely, we are just casual wine drinkers & learned a lot about NZ wine, w/ no pressure to buy....highly recommded for all! PS- we were just in city, not from a cruise so dont worry anyone can take this tour

My friend and I were the only ones on this tour the day that we went. The weather was delightful and the wines were delicious. Everyone was very knowledgeable and engaging making the tour a very pleasant one. The countryside is beautiful and it was nice to get away from busy Auckland for a day. The visit to the Gannet colony was nice. The ocean views were amazing. Wear a hat and sun glasses! It isn't shady there at all. I have to say that New Zealand is just beautiful and if you get the chance to do this tour, you will not be disappointed.

This was a post cruise excursion to see sights outside of Auckland and visit wineries. John, our guide, was very friendly and informative. We first went to the northern coast to see the the Tasman Sea, the Muriwai black sand beach, and the Takapu gannet colony. John provided great commentary on what we were seeing. Then we were off to visit two wineries for tasting. John selected two excellent wineries and were received a broad selection of great local wines to taste.

Hilton hotel assisted and tracked down Viators supplier who was Canterbury Leisure and they are then subcontracted to Auckland Wineries Tours. Eventually they found us. We took this tour because we were visiting Auckland for 1 day on a cruise and had limited time. John, our tour guide took us to wineries that matched our taste in wines. On the way we stopped to see a gannet colony which was a fascinating insight into these birds. This was a great tour and we highly recommend it.
