Gather around a large pit oven for the unveiling of the night’s meal. Learn about the ancient and elaborate hangi method of cooking, in which food is layered atop hot stones and wood planks, then covered and cooked for several hours. Watch the steaming feast come out of the ground and then dig into a buffet of various meats, vegetables, stuffing, breads, and salads, topped off with pudding for dessert.

All participants in the concert were so joyful and seemed to enjoy what they were doing. The selection of 3 chiefs from the audience was an entertaining aspect.
Experiencing the way the food was prepared was also a highlight....but not as good as eating it!!!
Thank you very much.

Great Experience

We had a fabulous experience at Waitangi Treaty Grounds two days after Waitangi Day. Both the tour and the hang were small and intimate. The guides were very knowledgeable and welcoming. The Maori culture was well expressed and comprehensive with the ability to easily ask questions. The hang meal was great and the Maori cooking methods were well demonstrated. I attended a similar experience years ago in Rotorua and that was large group, well done but it felt very commercial. This was intimate and friendly.
wonderful Maori evening
