What To Expect

This historic day trip from Phoenix to Tombstone is like traveling back in time from a busy, modern urban metropolis to the days of the old Wild West. Here in The Town Too Tough To Die, hear the tales of debauchery and crime from this legendary frontier mining camp, where wooden buildings and dusty streets make it feel like it’s still 1880.

While wandering the streets full of damsels and outlaws, stroll past Big Nose Kate’s Saloon that was once the Grand Hotel, which was built in 1881 and owned by a woman who was rumored to be the girlfriend of the feared gunfighter Doc Holliday. Make a stop by the OK Corral and hear about the infamous shootout, which some have called the world’s most famous 30-second gunfight.

You’ll also see the Birdcage Theater, a strange combination of a theater, gambling parlor, saloon and brothel — the type of building that typified life in the old Wild West. At the Tombstone Historical Courthouse, see inside the home of Wyatt Earp and his gunfighting friend Doc Holliday, and travel up to Boot Hill Cemetery where famous frontiersmen are buried.

On the winding drive back north to Phoenix, stop outside Tucson for one of Arizona’s most popular Mission attractions: The White Dove of the Desert, Spanish-style Mission at San Xavier del Bac. The Catholic Mission was often referred to as 'the place where the water appears,' since the subterranean Santa Cruz River flows up to the surface nearby. After touring the historic Mission grounds, relax in comfort in the luxurious van as you enjoy the drive back to Phoenix with the earthy colors of the Sonoran desert racing just past your door.

It was a nice afternoon. It would be a great excursion for a family. Your children would experience life in the Wild West. Enjoy the shopping.
Tombstone in a Day

Many things to do in an old west town. Seeing gunfights and saloons and a dusty neat street. There are also trolley tours.
Great day at Tombstone and San Xavier Mission

We had a great day and our driver/historian Robert went beyond most drivers. The weather wasn’t the best but it didn’t stop any of our explorations. Tombstone has a lot going for it and although we ran out of time, we saw the basics…cowboys…history…gunfights…saloons. Our stop at San Xavier Mission was a great insight to the architecture of that time. Overall a great day and lots of memories!

Thanks for joining us! While the distances may be long, the destination and journey we take make them worth it every single time. We hope to see you again soon, we've got plenty more Southwest to show you! Best, Nathan DETOURS
Tombstone tour

Our tour guide was nice. But didn't explain a lot of either the misssion or Tombstone. He spoke about his experiences which while interesting were not what I booked the tour for. I also felt the trip was a bit rushed as we had to wait 25min for food which meant we missed a show. I felt it was a long journey with little highlights
Great day

Great tour guide with interesting information about the different locations along the trip. He was a little herky-jerky on the accelerator throughout the trip, though.

My wife and I really enjoyed the entire trip. Plenty of time to see the mission, boot hill and especially Tombstone. Thanks to our tour guide Montana, we were always updated with historical details and information about each Tombstone character. The gun fight reenactment was excellent.
Enjoyable

The San Xavier mission did nothing for me, Tombstone was a tourist trap but less so than I feared, the journey to and from Tomb stone is long so if you can find a more convenient base for the trip that would improve things
Dan, our tour guide, was on his game! He was kind, knowledgeable, and flexible. The timing of the tour was off.

Once we finally arrive at Tombstone it’s was 12:30 pm; I was hungry. Took a while to get and pay for lunch, leaving only 45 min to see Tombstone.
Long Day from Scottsdale
Valerie_S, Oct 2018
With a 6am pickup in Scottsdale and a 4 hour drive to Tombstone and the Mission plus an hour in ocmmute traffic on the return extra - back at 8pm - I would not advise if you want to sit in a small 13 pasenger bus for that long. The driver talked non stop about Wyatt Earp - 4 hours without a break, 3 hours too long in Tombstone - lunch, Courthouse and Boot Hill out in the freezing cold was more than I could handle. I did not feel that is was good value for $150 without lunch.

The trip gave you an idea of how rough it was to live, if someone didnt shoot or hang you first, in those days. The gunfight was entertaining and the printing press was very interesting. The coach was not very comfortable, lacked legroom hence the score.

We were already looking forward to seeing Tombstone, but having Montana as our tour guide just made it that much better! We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The re-enactment of the OK-Corral shoot out was fun and we like how the characters included us. We hope that if you go on this tour, you have Montana as your guide. He made the entire ride informative, entertaining and enjoyable! Thank you Montana!! A little about the tour...we were on a tour shuttle bus down with very easy to listen to commentary from Montana. While in Tombstone, we ate lunch at the Crystal Palace. The open faced roast beef sandwich was delicious! While there, it's a must to see the re-enactment. I do wish we had just a little more time there, but the ride is pretty long from Scottsdale/Phoenix, so I get it. The ride back was fun because we got to watch some of the Tombstone movie and got some rest as well. We really had a great time!

This review is for the tour company to read. Our tour guide, Montana, did a fantastic job. He was very informative on the Tombstone history. He made sure to answer all questions and to keep all 6 of us hydrated due to the hot weather. This was the highlight having him as our guide and making us feel like family. Now why did I give it only two stars? 1. The van ran out of gas midway to our destination. Luckily Montana was able to get off of the expressway and we were stopped on the ramp. It was 110F sitting in the Ford Transit Connect Van in the sun. By luck there was a gas station three blocks away and Montatnaran to get enough gas to allow him to get the van refuled. The guage on the van showed 60 miles left before it needed to be refuled. Well ....... that was false which was no fault of Montana. We proceeded to our destination. 2. It was agreed that 3 1/2 hours in Tombstone with 117F was too long. 3. Unfortunatley the air conditioning in this van was useless. It was 117F outside and the van temperature with 84.5F I took a reading with the air on! All six passengers with extremelly uncomfortable and wet from sweating. I understand that it was hot outside, but to allow this to happen is shameful. Montana did whatever he could but faulty equipment got the best of this tour. Montana you did a fantastic job, thank you! Detours, may I suggest that you look into this before potential clients detour to a different vendor!
