What To Expect

After morning pickup at select locations in Phoenix or Scottsdale, relax on your drive through the Sonora Desert, en route to some of the American Southwest's most beautiful highlights.

Your drive brings you through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as you increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As you continue further into northern Arizona, travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, one of the largest contiguous forests of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams is the first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition.

Your van climbs up to 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) before you reach your first stopping point in Grand Canyon National Park. Expect ample time to explore the features around the deepest and widest part of the canyon, which measures 277 miles (445 km) in length. Visit the El Tovar Hotel and Hopi House in Grand Canyon Village, multiple scenic lookout points along the East Rim Drive, and have time to shop, go for a walk, grab lunch (own expense), and visit cultural exhibits along the rim.

Your tour ends in the evening upon your return to your starting point in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area.

Our tour guide, Aldo, was amazing and so much fun! My husband and I had the best day visiting Sedona and then the Grand Canyon. We even opted to do the helicopter tour while at the Grand Canyon which had amazing views. Best Day!!

Everything was great. Tracey was our guide and he was very knowledgeable. He knew to take us to the Grand Canyon first to avoid long wait times getting in. I do recommend that your travel guides let the passengers know to give gratuity. My mom and I are from Boston,MA and we know to give 20% and we did. I feel bad for our guide as only a few people tipped him. I do think some people do not know to tip. I think a friendly gesture at the beginning of the trip mentioning if we had a good time to tip or to give any suggestions to make the trip better. All and all we had a great experience and will book other trips in the future.

The Grand Canyon is spectacular on its own, but it was even better because our tour guide Aldo made it better. His knowledge of Arizona, his ability to tell great stories his choice of routes to see more than just the highway made the experience exponentially better. If I ever do this again, I will request Aldo. On the vehicle, you really need some kind of cup holder. The trip was worth every penny and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Disappointing tour experience

Grand Canyon was majestic. The tour experience – far from it. Our tour guide Aldo rushed us through the Grand Canyon because he prioritized those who opted for a $300+ per person helicopter tour he introduced outside the itinerary. For those who opted out (like us), he kept them waiting for more than 1.5 hours and was rude and impatient with us when we entered the Grand Canyon National Park to enjoy the time we had been promised.

This is an excellent tour. It was so easy to book online and all the email and phone communication was excellent. Dan the tour guy is excellent! He was extremely knowledgeable and made the trip very enjoyable. It’s a long day but it’s worth it and there are so many stops to take amazing photos or just to take a bathroom break and get snacks. Tracey was a phenomenal tour guide. I enjoyed walking the Grand Canyon rim trail to the geology building the most. It was beautiful when driving down the winding canyon roads of Sedona. Both breath taking experiences. Plenty of time for resting on the way to/from destinations.

Not actually 3 hours at the rim of the Grand Canyon

The tour was disappointing. The actual time exploring the South Rim of the canyon was only 2 hours, not 3 as one would expect based on the tour description of “experience approximately three hours within the National Park marveling at the beauty that is the Grand Canyon”. Note the “within” – that’s because apparently the other 1 hour was allotted to sitting in the van driving from the park entrance and back! (in actuality the ride was merely 15 min each way, with no traffic at any point). On top of that the van only made the one stop at the rim – at Bright Angel Lodge, and didn’t stop near Mather Point or Yavapai Point, which were specifically mentioned on the Viator page. A few smaller issues marred the rest of the trip. The guide seemed unfamiliar with the temp controls in the van and unable to maintain a comfortable temperature. We stopped twice at a gas station with temporary porta-potties instead of switching that particular stop to a place with normal bathrooms. Overall the tour felt pretty rushed, very bumpy and uncomfortable.

I loved this trip! It was so convenient for us as we were staying in Phoenix. We appreciated our knowledgeable guide Derrick! He was excellent. Looking back now, I wished we would have done a Grand Canyon only trip because Sedona wasn’t really interesting to my group.
