An Experience Worth Doing

Our guide and driver, Grant, was fantastic. He was very helpful and got us to Te Puia on time. Te Puia was a fantastic experience that is well worth the money. The Hangi was delicious, and the cultural show was a great experience. Highly recommend.

Great Day with the Māori

This was by far the coolest experience! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very helpful! We were picked up right from our hotel and then headed off on our day. We stopped about an hour and a half in for some coffee and snacks. When we arrived, we dropped others off at the spa before heading into Te Puia. In Te Puia, we had almost an hour to explore on our own before seeing the Māori show. Following the Māori show, we then went to the hangi lunch. This was a delicious all you can eat buffet! After lunch, we had about another hour to explore. We spent this time in the gift shop because we knew we wouldn’t have time later. Then we met for our walking tour. We saw three Kiwi birds, only wish we could have taken a picture of them! Then we walked down to the geysers and even saw the biggest one erupt!

BUSY day but a great introduction to the Maori culture and area

The tour of the Maori schools, the kiwi house, the geyser, lunch and the Maori performance were all great. You do have to realize that you will be in a van for about 2.5 hours total each way so it is a long day. Our tour guide Cam was great. He got everyone to where they wanted to go. Some enjoyed the Spa which I would try next time but the lunch/performance option was quite nice as well.

The art school. The cultural experience was cancelled and no reason was given as to why. The driver was knowledgeable but seemed more focused on his accounting expertise.

Wonderful tour. Grant, our driver, was very knowledgeable and keen about safety. There were 16 ppl in out group with different plans for the day, and Grant managed it all perfectly. I chose to go to Te Puia and take the rest of the day free at the charming town of Rotorua. I love it.

Grant greeted us right on time. He gave us granola bars and water (much appreciated). Later in the afternoon, he offered us snacks. He was very helpful, caring, and informative. The tour was beyond expectations. The visit to the Māori center was fabulous glimpse into the culture, art and life of the indigenous people.

Great cultural show/ concert. Seeing the geysers was fun. They had 3 kiwi birds in their kiwi house that were easy to see. Hangi lunch buffet was fabulous.

Amazing cultural experience at Maori center

I highly recommend this trip as a learning adventure and cultural enrichment trip. However, do not over plan, as there is just enough time to enjoy the entirety of the center without rushing. The hangy buffet was wonderful and worth the extra cost. We watched the geysers erupt for 30+ minutes as we dined and enjoyed the gorgeous veranda. The drive is long but Michael our driver and guide made it interesting and fun. He is amazing!

Loved the Maori school in session for wood carving and weaving at Te Puia. Waitamo Caves is a great combined experience in caves and biolumminesent creatures. Excellent guide and experience overall.
