What To Expect

At 14,410 feet above sea level, beautiful and majestic Mt Rainier is an icon in the Washington landscape—an active volcano and the most glaciated peak in the United States, creating six major rivers.

This day trip nature tour to hike and/or snowshoe around Mt. Rainier National Park begins with a Seattle hotel pickup followed by a scenic drive to the park in a luxury vehicle. Upon arrival, enjoy Seattle coffee and pastries before starting the trek along the Nisqually Vista Trail. Be on the lookout for wildlife wandering around the mountain at any time.

This all-day Mt Rainier tour includes frequent stops to take pictures and enjoy light snacks. A picnic lunch of locally sourced, organic foods (grilled chicken or salmon, sandwich or wrap, with a grain or green salad and water or soda) is also provided midday.

At the end of the day, it’s back down the mountain to take a relaxing return trip to Seattle.

Excellent experience
Iris_C, Jun 2023
Had a great time with Karen during the Mt. Rainier day trip! Excellent food, excellent views, and Karen was super friendly and professional. I was visiting from Taiwan and did not have enough warm layers to prepare me for any trip up the still snowy mountains, but Evergreen Escapes provided (by request) a nice jacket and hiking boots of my size. There were also trekking poles and gloves for the group. If you join this tour there is really nothing you should worry about. Excellent experience! Thanks again, Karen!
Beautiful Trip

This trip was absolutely amazing! Brent was an amazing tour guide! He went out of his way to make everyone feel welcomed and included. I was worried as a plus size solo traveler but I was able to participate in all activities and never felt excluded. I’m glad I decided to make this trip. It was truly amazing!
Response from Host, Jun 2023

Wonderful, untrusted experience. All needs provided for by a great guide, Mal. I got to snowshoe for the first time and ended up at a falls I had wanted to see for over a decade.

The forest walk and...
Bessie_d, May 2023
The forest walk and waterfalls were awesome! We didn’t see Mt. Rainier due to weather conditions but the waterfalls and the trek among the tall and century old trees compensated for it. Lunch was cold and so-so though.
Response from Host, May 2023
Hi Bessie, Thank you for your review! Happy to hear that the sights and sounds of the trail made up for Mt. Rainier wanting to hide itself away. I am sorry to hear our lunch fell short of your expectations. Unfortunately, with exploring remote national parks, we don't have access to a kitchen or facility to heat up our meals. We try to provide fresh, filling, and healthy lunches from a local co-op deli, but we can't warm up the food. We appreciate your feedback, though! Kind regards, DJ Bergquist Guest Experience & Sales Manager | Evergreen Escapes
Good but not worth the price
Alisha_R, Apr 2023
Great tour guide. However, the hike time mentioned in the itinerary is a minimum of three hours but we only ended up doing a max of 30 min hike total in the day trip. Poor planning on the company's part. We stopped by at least three restrooms on the way to park before we started hiking. We did not snowshoe hike in Paradise as planned because the guide wasn't sure of the snow safety. So we were taken to another spot, only to find 10 minutes later that the snow got dangerous for us to hike there - so we turned away. The second and the last hike we did was for 10 minutes through a wooded forest. So a total of 30 minutes hike is all we did. The tour company needs to set the right expectations for the amount they charge. The food was cold, bland and insufficient for the group. For $300+, they could've gotten a good deal with a restaurant at a park visitor center. Not worth the money. Felt like we were on a scouts trip - I would've been okay with that if the tour was much cheaper. Great people on the tour though.
Response from Host, May 2023
Hi Alicia, I am sorry we fell short of your expectations for your trip. Unfortunately, sometimes snow hazards can create conditions that are not safe for our guests to explore, and it sounds like this may have been one of those rare times. We always prioritize guest safety, and if that means we can't explore a certain area of the park, so be it. Guest safety is something we do not waiver on, and if our guide felt the snow-covered trails weren't safe, we will stand behind their decision. With exploring remote national parks, there aren't areas to prepare food, so we are unable to provide fine dining opportunities. There is no restaurant at the visitor center, and the restaurant in Paradise Inn doesn't open until later in the year. We do try our best to provide filling, healthy meals from a local co-op deli here in Seattle. With that said, I do apologize that the food was not to your standard, and appreciate the feedback you gave so that we can improve our tours. We are constantly trying to learn about how we can be better, so I appreciate the insight. I hope we get the chance to make this trip up to you in the future. Book if you’re thinking about it!
Sanela_F, Mar 2023
Excellent tour!! I’m traveling solo & was considering renting a car to drive to Mount Rainier for the first time & I’m glad I went with the tour instead. It was a small group & Marty was the tour guide. Marty is incredibly knowledgeable & provided education during the entire trip. I’m also vegan & there were plenty vegan options available for snacks & for lunch! Lots of snow on Mount Rainier & perfect for snow shoeing. Marty was really patient & allowed the group to determine pace & snow shoe distance. The views are beautiful, especially if you have some sun & clear skies. Pick up & drop off we’re smooth & timely. I would highly recommend it!
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Hi Sanela, Thanks for the kind review and for sharing your experience with other travelers! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your small-group tour -- definitely more fun and less stressful than trying to explore the park on your own! Hope to see you out on another tour soon! Great Experience!! Highly recommend!!

Hiking in snow shoes and getting amazing views of the mountains was so amazing! The weather was great and we were able to get away from the crowds rather quickly. My guide, Marty, was so knowledgeable about the park and knew which spots were great for pictures. He really made the whole experience a blast. I highly recommend this tour for all travelers especially solo travelers.

Amazing day snowshoeing

I had a great experience! Evan was our tour guide and he was amazing! He shared so much about nature and the area, it was awesome to learn so much in a day. It was my first time snowshoeing and my first time in that much snow and it was so much fun! It was great exchanging experiences and talking to Evan on the way there and back, he definitely made our experience exceptional

Spiritual Experience immersed in Nature's Natural Beauty!
Diane_C, Oct 2022
On Tuesday Oct 4th we met Evan Seyfried our guide their office. We had a rental car, drove into the city, and left our car at their start location. We left in drizzle and fig stopping halfway for snacks and a bathroom. As we approached the sun came out, crystal clear visibility, and blue skys! What a sight to behold! We hiked and Evan guided us to several beautiful scenic spots. We saw wildlife on the trails and in the sky. The scenery was just breathtaking on all accounts and helped to distract from the steep ups and downs! A yummy picnic lunch back at the lot that was fabulous and rewarding after our efforts! We called our group the "Sunrise Seekers". Evan took us next to a hike in another location to a beautiful waterfall! He took great care in assuring we were safe and doing well at all times. Very comforting since we were the oldest couple their! Our last stop was a walk through an Old Growth forest that was incredible to experience seeing and "feeling" these trees that were hundreds of years old! We had a fun ride back, topped off by a beautiful sunset outside of Seattle. Thank you Evan for making this trip the highlight of our week here! I highly recommend Evergreen Escapes for an experience you won't forget! Diane+Jo-Anne

Majestic Views of Mt. Rainier with Evergreen Escapes
Jeremy_N, Oct 2022
Our tour guide, Owen, was fantastic! He was so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the region. He pointed out the many highlights along the way. I was unable to do the hikes due to a recent knee injury, so my sister and I were able to hang back near the van or at the welcome center and were still able to enjoy the sights. The breakfast provided was tea or coffee with pumpkin bread. There was always an assortment of beverages and trail bars available. Lunch was an amazing spread of chicken, cauliflower bites, ravioli and ginger tofu, all from the local Puget Community Co-op, so the food was bursting with flavors. Owen provided a large snickerdoodle cookie at the end of our journey which was a treat! There were ample stops to take pictures of the mountain and natural habitats. By far, one of the most enjoyable trips I have taken from a tour operator!
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Those snickerdoodle cookies are so good! And Owen's local knoweldge is pretty impressive too :) Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with future travelers, Jeremy! Kind regards, Kenzi | Evergreen Escapes
Highly recommend this excursion with this guide.
Debra_H, Oct 2022
Loved the views from Mt Rainier. Easy hiking trail. The guide was fantastic in so many ways. I learned a great deal from him about the trees, vegetation, species of birds. He had a great way of introducing the group to each other by having each person tell something about themselves. He made the whole excursion from the drive to Mt Rainier to the drive back to the city entertaining. His enthusiasm for nature was captivating. While he worked very hard to make this excursion very enjoyable and a learning experience, I did not like when he said he would appreciate a tip. It’s understood in the Viator information tipping is not included in the price.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Hi Debra, Thanks for sharing your tour experience! I'm glad you enjoyed the trails and views so much, along with learning so many things about the park! Tipping is not required, but your guides graciously accept tips based on their hard work. The tour guides are the ones who make the tour experience so special, and often people will tip because their guide went above and beyond what a normal tour guide would do - which is one thing that Evergreen Escapes guides are known for. Often times, people don't know if they should tip or not, so I think that was just your guide informing people that he would accept a tip if offered one. Many people don't book our tours through Viator, so information regarding tipping is not always understood. Hope to see you again soon! Cheers, DJ Bergquist Guest Experience & Sales Manager | Evergreen Escapes
