Great trip but don’t go If you have Allergies!
      Kathy_T, Mar 2023
Loved the visit and the driver Michael was great. We enjoyed the tour. Our problem came the day after when my husband I I both discovered we were allergic to the Sulphur. He had bad congestion and coughing while I reacted with hives where the mud sat and asthma. If you have allergies at all to ANYTHING, I would not recommend.

Hi Kathy, so sorry to read this. There is nothing on the Hells Gate website to say about allergies otherwise we would most certainly have informed our customers in advance. Do hope you are both well now. K
Do this tour if you want to stink for days!

The geothermal park is definitely worth a look but avoid the baths/pools. Wish I had known in advance about the mud bath and sulphur hot water pool stinking out all your clothes and your skin for days to come. In the tour, you are quickly taken off the bus by the geothermal park staff, you don't get to stop by the toilet or ask any questions but are whisked away to the mud path and pool area. You are advised to take off jewellery and that sulphur will come out of your skin for the next few days. You can hire old swim wear but not many sizes and can hire a towel, so bring one with you to be sure you have one. What you are not advised by Viator or the park staff or anywhere on the signs in the park, is that your bathers will be ruined after the swim due to the overwhelming stink that does not come out ever. Your skin continues to smell for days and all the subsequent clothes you wear also smell like sulphur and we've washed a few times with the smell not coming out of those either. When booking through Viator, we should be advised to take old swim wear due to overwhelming sulphur odour clinging to them for the rest of their life and that you will continue to smell for days after the tour. The staff should also advise you of the side effects as your body detoxes with the sulphur before you get to the park, as I felt quite ill afterwards too. Proceed with caution

Hi Angela, thank you for your feedback. We do give as much product info as we can and provide a link to Hells Gate so customers can do research before they book. Old swimwear is advised is the product info. Rotorua being is in a volcanic area and as such sulphur is product of the geothermal activity that this attraction highlights.
