Enjoyable Tour
jfelker3, Mar 2023
We enjoyed our tour, but it definitely was not the most organized tour that we went on in NZ hence the 4 star rating (with a bit more organization it would have been 5 star). This area is beautiful and we saw many gorgeous lookouts along the way. One lookout the guide took us to, was private property and the owner actually came out & told us to get off the property. We loved going to the kiwi farm but spent way too much time there - approx 30 min when 10 min would have been sufficient. We learned some history of the Maori people and saw the concert at the geothermal village. The geothermal village part of the tour was not very organized as only us and one other couple had paid to see the sulphur springs. We were told to just follow the path to the right but the map showed a full loop. We were advised to just go right and not take the loop. I think this was so we could reunite with the rest of the group. It wasn't a big deal as we have seen sulphur springs and a geyser in the past but we only saw the geyser from a distance. If there was more time we would have done the full loop. It was rushed. For lunch we were given 2 options with limited selection, and we had so little time so it wasn't the best. The one spot said certain menu options would take 15 min to prepare and we were told we had to be back at the bus in 30 min so by the time we ordered we didn't think we had time to get what we wanted. People ended up talking with the guide on the street corner and we spent much more than 30 min at the lunch stop so we could have actually ordered what we wanted and had time to eat it. Overall it was a good tour and we got some great photos. We also enjoyed a stop at a forest where we got to walk in and see some of the flora which was very beautiful.
Exciting Rotorua

Courtesy, humour and an individualised itinerary is what you can expect when you do this tour. We visited places that you would never go to on a normal bus tour. Our guide gave comprehensive details but was also interested in providing the information we were looking for.
Local private shore excursion with guide Kerry

Thanks, Kerry, for a wonderfully enjoyable and informative day tour. Arrow Tours was already at the front gate of the cruise port in Tauranga when the ship arrived. We only had four of us on the minibus due to others not being well. We travelled many miles, firstly through the Mt Maunganui area and then with stops along the way, firstly to Lake Tarawera, long ago formed by volcanic activity, where we had a 15-minute coffee break at the lake’s café with stunning views, and nearby the Blue and Green Lakes. We travelled to picturesque Rotorua with steaming sulphur geysers, where we were entertained at the Whakarewarewa Māori Village with their cultural stories and dance. Lucky to have a small crowd at our visiting time we were able to become more personally involved. Next was a lunch stop (lunch was buy your own) at a pleasant café where they served the best milkshakes ever😉. Our final stop was at the redwood forest. We had great weather on the day so we all enjoyed it immensely. Thanks again to Kerry for his great yarns and informative knowledge of his local area and the culture.

I would highly recommend this tour. There were only four of us on the tour and the guide was wonderful. Gave commentary the entire ride. The geyser was amazing. As good as Yellowstone. And the sulphuric smell was not that bad. We four dropped off the guided tour of the geysers when the guide from the park wanted us to spend a half hour in the arts and crafts studio first. She said the geysers were quietand would be better in thirty minutes. Well, the geysers were just fine. Maybe she wanted to show us the gift shop?

The weather greatly impeded our outing as it rained all day. Our ship was late coming in so we had a shorter excursion time. This meant that we literally drove to the mud pools which took 1 1/2 hours. Thats a long way to drive to see mud bubbling. We did drive another way back to see the town and stopped at a kiwi farm which was interesting. Overall our tour was good, but not great.

Quite interesting sites if you haven't been to Yellowstone, but the Maori Culture show tends to be very crowded. Be first in line. Mike, our guide was knowledgable and offered great insights.

Great trip however didn't set off until an hour later than expected due to them wanting to fill the bus up so waited for another 4 people who hadn't booked on line like the rest of us. They knew how many had booked on line so should have gone with that.

Roger was a great tour guide and driver for us. There were four of us, friends, that shared the trip and we all agreed that Roger went out of his way to make this an interesting tour of Taranga and Rotorua. We stopped at major tourist spots plus some of Roger's favorites. I think we were scheduled for 6 hours and to make sure we saw many points of interest, it was closer to 7 which we all enjoyed. I would highly recommend this tour.
